What is 浪子踢球 (prodigal kicking the ball)?

Updated · Shanshenbu Dance

浪子踢球 (làng zǐ tī qiú, "the prodigal kicks the ball") is a basic move of the Anhui Flower Drum Lantern dance, the same folk dance as the flash step: one leg kicks back or hooks forward while the upper body dodges hard the other way. It went viral with shan shen bu in September 2026, and football and basketball fans post it as the best fake-out move.

Where it comes from

The Flower Drum Lantern dance (花鼓灯) comes from the Huai River area of Anhui and has been national intangible cultural heritage in China since 2006. Prodigal kicking the ball and the flash step are both basic steps of its male role. The viral clips come from an old Beijing Dance Academy folk dance tutorial, where the teachers demonstrate them straight-faced.

The third move

Bear shaking its fur (狗熊哆嗦毛) went viral at the same time: a fast whole-body shake from Shandong's Guzi Yangge drum dance, not from the Flower Drum Lantern.

Warm up first

The kick loads one leg while the body twists. Hospitals in China treated young people with knee ligament injuries from copying these moves cold.

Make a flash step video of yourself

The AI video here is the flash step, ending in a crouching back kick; it doesn't do the full prodigal kick. Upload one photo of yourself: One full-body photo in, your own shan shen bu flash step video out: you lunge sideways, snap back, throw a kick and stare into the camera, right where the photo was taken.
